How To Make A Melted Crayon Pumpkin With A Hot Glue Gun

Did you know you can melt crayons with a hot glue gun?! Make a cute melted crayon pumpkin in any colors you want with crayons and a glue gun!

Did you know that crayons fit perfectly in the back of mini hot glue guns?! Most melted crayon art is done with a hair dryer or a heat gun, but I LOVE melting crayons with hot glue guns. You get a ton more control over where the melted crayons go on your project, plus you can control the amount of wax that comes out of the hot glue gun so you can make heavier or lighter areas. I made an awesome melted crayon pumpkin with a hot glue gun to show you just how easy it is to do!

Supplies needed to make a melted crayon pumpkin

I suggest you have a separate mini hot glue gun for melting crayons. You can’t really clean out the glue gun after using crayons in it, so it would be hard to switch back and forth between glue and crayons without mixing the two up a little bit.

Along those same lines, you can’t really clean out the glue gun in between crayons either. So if you’re using different colors, you may get a little bit of mixing in the barrel of the glue gun as one crayon ends and the next one begins. But I think that little extra gradient is a pretty great way to go from one color to the next!

Instructions

The paper wrapper on the crayons can’t go through the hot glue guns, so start by removing the paper from your crayons.

Peel crayon paper before using in hot glue gun

Load the crayon into the back of the glue gun, just like you would a normal hot glue stick. You may need to put pressure on the crayon with your fingers to help it get started, just until the little “grabber” part on the glue gun can actually grab the crayon and press it through the barrel.

Once melted crayon starts coming out the tip of the glue gun, drip it onto your pumpkin!

Melted crayons are much runnier than melted hot glue, so be careful how hard you squeeze the trigger. The melted wax might run all the way down to the bottom of your pumpkin if too much comes out all at once!

When one crayon runs out or gets too short, just load a second crayon into the back of the glue gun right on top of it. The colors will mix slightly right as the first crayon ends and the second one begins, but then you’ll have a brand new color to play with!

Keep going around your pumpkin with melted crayons until you’re happy with the way it looks. Then you’re done!
